The smallest of Greek Bronze coins. The word “mite” was used in the Bible and was obviously referred to as the smallest coin known and used by the Jews.
St. Luke 21:1...”And He looked up and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And He said, of a truth I say unto you that this poor widow hast cast in more than they all. For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God; but she of her penury hath cast in all of the living he had.”
The replica coins used in these earrings measure approximately 1/2 inch (14mm) in diameter and are cast in plain bronze. Over time the coins will develop a darker patina.
